Terms and Conditions

1. General

By using the Carwave website and services, you agree to the terms and conditions herein. Carwave reserves the right to amend these terms at any time, with updated terms available on the website.

2. Eligibility

Services are available to individuals aged 19 years and over with a valid driving license and at least one year of driving experience. Users under this age or without a valid driving license are prohibited from using the service. For clients between the ages of 19 and 24, there is an additional charge of 15 euros per day to cover insurance costs.

3. Required Documents

Renting a car from Carwave requires the presentation of a valid passport or identification card (ID) and a valid driver’s license.

4. Reservations

All reservations must be made through the Carwave website. The minimum rental period is 1 day and there is no maximum rental period. Confirmation of a reservation does not constitute acceptance of the rental. Carwave reserves the right to refuse a rental to anyone.

5. Payment and Deposit

Full payment is required at the time of booking. We accept all major credit cards, cash, and mobile payment services like Apple Pay or Google Pay, bank transfers, and Stripe for secure online transactions. A deposit of 300 euros is required when you choose to rent a car without full insurance coverage.

6. Cancellations and Modifications

If you need to cancel or modify your reservation, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Cancellations made within 3 days prior to the rental booking will incur a 12€ fee. For modifications, please review our modification policy on the Carwave website.

7. Vehicle Use

The vehicle must only be used in a careful and proper manner and shall not be used in any way that is inconsistent with the laws of Madeira Island. Only Unleaded Petrol 95/98 is permitted when fuelling the car rental. Additional drivers are only allowed if they are included in the rental agreement at the time of booking or during the rental period, with an additional fee of 5€ per day for each extra driver. Unfortunately, our rental cars are not allowed to be taken off the island of Madeira. Pets are not allowed in the rental vehicles.

8.  Fuel Policy

We kindly request that you return the rental vehicle with the fuel tank at the same level as when it was provided to you. Failure to do so will result in additional charges for refuelling.

9. Additional Services

Carwave offers additional services like GPS navigation systems and child seats. These services are subject to availability and additional charges.

10. Damages

You will be held responsible for any damage or loss to the rented vehicle during the rental period, except where damage has been caused by Carwave or its agents. Our full insurance option can be availed to reduce your liability in case of damage.

11. Insurance

All vehicles are insured in accordance with the laws of Madeira Island. Full insurance options are available for purchase at the time of booking.

12. Assistance

Carwave offers roadside assistance in case of vehicle breakdown. The terms and conditions of this service are available on our website.

13. Personal Data

We collect and use your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which is available on our website.

14. Limitation of Liability

Carwave will not be responsible for any indirect, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive damages, or any other damages beyond the direct and actual damages incurred.

15. Governing Law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Madeira Island, Portugal.
